a.    Why is Jitiya festival celebrated?

Ans- Jitiya festival is celebrated for the good fortune and long life for the husband and children by married women.

b.      How long is this festival celebrated?

Ans- This festival is celebrated for three days.

c.      What do married women do on the second day of celebration?

Ans- On the second day, the married women fast the whole day. They go to the river, pond and well and make an idol of Jimutavahana made of kush (the holy grass), and worship the idol. The devotees get together and the ones who know about Jimutavahana, narrate his story. During fasting hours, they sing and dance, too.

d.    How and when do married women scrub their house?

Ans- On the first day of the celebration, women scrub their house with cow’s dung to make their house sacred.

e.      What is the relationship between Masabashi and the Sun?

Ans- Masabashi’s son named Jimutavahana was a blessing son of the Sun.

f.  What do married women offer to Jimutavahana before they break their fast?

Ans- Married women offer some fruits, milk and curd to Jimutavahana before they break their fast.

g.    How can the celebration of Jitiya promote harmony among people?

Ans- The celebration of Jitiya can promote harmony among people by strengthening the good relations among different ethnic groups in a society.
